How do the tides affect my stay at Recompence?
We consider our tidal frontage to be a beautiful part of our scenery, as the water views change throughout the day. At high tide (twice per day) the water comes to the shoreline, and at low tide (twice per day) the water recedes exposing the clam flats. For those planning to kayak, canoe, fish or swim there is enough water three hours before high tide to three hours after high tide.
Can I bring my pets?
Yes, you may bring up to two friendly pets per campsite, as long as you present evidence that they have had their rabies vaccination at time of registration. They must remain on leash and quiet at all times. You must always clean up after your pet, and never leave them unattended.
Do you have a sandy beach?
No. We do have several shore access points where many people enjoy swimming off of the rocks, or in the deeper water near the Little River Bridge. There is enough water for swimming from three hours before high tide to three hours after high tide, and we suggest that you wear foot protection when wading in.

Why can't I bring in my own firewood?
The State of Maine has instituted a ban on bringing firewood into the state. It is okay to bring wood purchased within a 50 mile radius of the campground, but please do not bring in any wood from outside the area.

What should I bring when renting a cabin?
Our cabins are very rustic. They have no electricity, though are outfitted with gas lamps and a gas cookstove. You may wish to bring additional lighting, in addition to bedding, a cooler for your food, and any special cooking equipment you may wish to use.
What kind of fishing is available?
At high tide, you can fish from the rocks at several shore access points, as well as the area by the Little River Bridge. Stripers are one of the favorite catches. As of January, 2011 fishing licenses are required for people over the age of 12.

Can I check-in to the Campground after the office is closed?
Yes. If you have made a reservation and plan to arrive after the office is closed (click here for office hours), please call ahead to let us know. We will place your check-in information in the white box by the office door. Any unpaid balance will need to be taken care of the following morning. If you do not have a reservation, you will also find late registration forms in the same box. Please note that we are fully booked many summer weekends and there may not be an open site available. Also, if you come in late, please be considerate about noise levels as you set up camp.
Are there hot showers?
Yes. Hot showers are available 24 hours at the shower building near the office. Please note that four American quarters must be used to start the shower, which lasts 10 minutes. Quarters are available in the office during business hours.

How far in advance can I make my reservation?
We begin accepting reservations for each camping season on January 1st. If you are hoping to book one of our prime oceanfront sites during a summer weekend, the earlier the better.
Can I have my wedding or family reunion at the campground?
Yes. The “Wedding Field” is a breathtaking area with remarkable ocean views near the Little River Bridge set aside for weddings, family reunions and business functions. It is available to rent through Wolfe’s Neck Farm.
What happens if I cancel my reservation?
Refunds are only available if you cancel your reservation 14 days or more in advance. Since camping is an outdoor experience, we do not refund for inclement weather.
Do I have to make reservations?
Reservations are highly recommended, especially during prime camping season. Often, we will have sites available mid-week, though summer weekends often book up entirely.
